Thessalia has the appropriate infrastructure and the resources that are essential for the foundation of a Biomedicine Department. The educational center CE.RE.TE.TH. includes the Departments of: Biomedicine (Larissa), AgroTechnology (Volos), Kinesiology (Trikala), and Mechatronics (Volos) that is staffed with internationally achnowledged scientific personnel. The clinical Resources of Thessalia consist of 4 big hospitals and a number of private clinics, which sets the bases to support research protocols.
The Departments are spread in the region of Thessalia and there is a collaboration among them. The Biomedicine Department cooperates with the department of Mechatronics to develop the field of Biomechanics from a scientific and technologic point of view and the department of Kinesiology to develop sensors to be applied to athletics, and to parients for rehabilitation , preoperative and postoperative diagnoses.
The founder is also the first Director of the Biomedicine Department Professor Konstantinos N. MALIZOS.

The research laboratories of Biomedicine Department, which have developed collaborations with universities and hospitals in Greece and abroad, are:

- Laboratory of Zoonoses Research
- Laboratory of Neurogenetics
At the same time, the following research groups take action:
Biomedicine Department develops its activities aiming at the Excellence, and its ambition is to become an incubator of novel research action as well as pole of development with recognition in Greece and worldwide.
