The Institute of Technology and Management of Agricultural Ecosystems (ITEMA) is responsible for the promotion of research and services in the areas of sustainable agricultural production, rural environment management and timber technology.In parallel it acts as a coordinator in relevant projects and clusters, affairing SMEs of this specific sector, in the area of Thessaly, Central Greece. It is organized in an administration unit located in the city of Karditsa, and five departments located in the cities of Karditsa and Volos. The Karditsa departments of ITEMA study drug discovery of development, animal husbandry including nutrition and well-being, animal products-production techniques and food traceability and timber technology. The Volos departments of ITEMA address research issues related to integrated and organic production of agricultural products, water and land resources, information and computer technologies in agriculture, agricultural constructions and buildings (greenhouses, livestock buildings), safety management and certification, biomass and biofuel production, and food hygiene.
